10 Tips for Weight Loss in South Orlando FL

There are so many ways to lose weight and so many opinions out there about what is best. I have compiled a list of my favorite tips for weight loss in South Orlando FL.

Tips in South Orlando FL

  1. Eat “real” food: Eat foods that are found around the perimeter of your grocery store, such as fruits and veggies, leans meats, and eggs. Try to stay away from processed foods that contain more than 10 ingredients and words that you can’t pronounce. There are exceptions to the perimeter rule such as beans/lentils, rice, and natural nut butters and nuts.
  2. Avoid liquid calories: Sugary drinks such as sodas, fancy coffees, tea, and fruit juices all contain unnecessary calories and sugar that your body does not need and will end up storing as fat.
  3. Always have a healthy snack with you: By keeping a snack with you at all times will keep you from binge eating when you get hungry on the go. Some good snack options are almonds, a piece of fruit, a small bag of veggies, or a low fat cheese wedge. A snack that my wife likes to carry is half and apple and a Baby Bell cheese wedge.
  4. Tell people about your goals: If you talk about your goals you are more likely to achieve them, due to not wanting to disappoint people if you don’t reach them.
  5. Drink lots of water: Drinking water helps keep you hydrated to help with digestion and boost your metabolism.
  6. Divide your meal in half when dining out and take the other half home: Restaurants often serve HUUUUGGGEEE portions, often times with more than twice the calories we need at one meal. By splitting your meal in half and taking the rest home ensures that you will not over indulge and you can even skip cooking the next day!
  7. Cut back on added sugar: Sugar is a huge culprit of weight gain. You don’t have to go cold turkey on your sugar intake, for example if you use 2 spoonful’s of sugar in your coffee every day, slowly start to decrease it by adding less and less each day instead of trying to go straight to plain old black coffee.
  8. Eat complex carbs instead of refined carbs: Complex carbs are carbs that are low glycemic index, meaning they won’t spike your blood sugar and they will keep you fuller longer. Complex carbs include brown rice, oatmeal, whole grain bread, and whole wheat pastas.
  9. Use spices instead of oils and butter: Using spices bumps up the flavor of any dish, my family has learned to use carbs by watching cooking shows and looking up fun, interesting recipes to cook together. We rely heavily on garlic, ginger, herbs, and cayenne pepper. Healthy food doesn’t mean boring food!
  10. Don’t skip meals: Skipping meals slows down your metabolism and can put your body into starvation mode, which will slow weight loss.
